The Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend announces that the Catholic Schools Office has earned system accreditation by Cognia™, a nonprofit organization that provides quality assurance for schools, school districts, and education service providers.
Cognia, formerly AdvancED, nationally recognizes districts that meet rigorous standards that focus on productive learning environments, equitable resource allocation that meet the needs of learners, and effective leadership. Earning accreditation from the Cognia Global Accreditation Commission means that the system and all of its schools are accredited, and that the Cathedral School of St. Matthew is recognized across the nation as a school system that meets Cognia Standards of Quality, and maintains a commitment to continuous improvement.
About the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend
Home to 82 parishes, 39 Catholic grade schools, and 4 Catholic high schools located in ten of the fourteen counties within its boundaries. All elementary schools are parish sponsored. The four high schools are diocesan. Our schools experienced a modest increase of one percent overall enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year (12,538 compared to 12,471 in 2020-2021). For this school year, the percentage of Catholics in the elementary schools was (87%-Catholic, 12%-Non-Catholic, & 1% Unknown) and in high schools (79%-Catholic, 19%-Non-Catholic, 2%-Unknown).
